Help Support The Displaced Persons Of Eastern DRC Return To Their Homes.
WEC-Congo, in collaboration with civil society, is committed to helping these displaced persons by implementing a concrete action plan to provide essential support. We propose:
- Distribution of Construction Materials: Providing sheets, windows, doors, nails, boards, rafters, and cement bags to enable families to rebuild and repair their homes.
- Security Initiatives: Collaborating with local authorities and security organizations to ensure the protection of displaced persons against potential future violence.
This fundraising campaign has been launched to support the displaced individuals in the Masisi/Sake territory affected by armed conflicts between the M23 and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC). Since January 2023, thousands of people have been forced to abandon their homes and have found themselves in displacement camps, living in makeshift shelters with limited access to food and other basic needs. Due to the exacerbation of the security situation in the displacement camps following the fall of the city of Goma, life in these camps has become nearly impossible. Under these conditions, some displaced persons are beginning to return to their areas of origin.
While the displaced persons from the city of Sake were in the camps, all their belongings were looted. Among these possessions, over 550 houses were burned by malicious individuals, houses were destroyed by bombs, doors and windows were removed, and even social infrastructures (schools, health centers, etc.) were destroyed.
After evaluating the situation, there is an urgent need to completely rebuild 15 houses and to repair 115 houses. The goal of this fundraising campaign is to address these immediate needs, providing psychological support and allowing families to regain a sense of security in their community.
